ITauthor back again! Dreamhost needed to restart MySQL. Took them almost a day, but we got there in the end. See their message:

Message from Dreamhost Support:

Sorry about that Alistair, the MySQL service your database runs on needed
to be restarted as it was not processing any quires. Now that it is back
up your site is also coming up. I can see that your latest post is

Posterous: quick & simple blogging – via email

I recommend that you activate the "WP-Super cache" plugin if it is not
yet activated. This helps reduces the amount of quires your site makes
which improves performance

Thanks!

Good to get a personal message from a real person. OK, so my site was down for a day, but they responded to both the emails I sent pretty quickly. So, overall, I'm still feeling okay about Dreamhost.

Just testing sending a tweet by emailing my posterous blog

So I now have 3 posterous blogs:

  • this one - for general publicly viewable stuff
  • a private personal one - I trying out using this as a sort of a diary/notes site. I dash off a quick email to it during the day and I can go check back through stuff later
  • a shared private one - for Patricia and I to use instead of emailing each other directly. We still get emailed, but this way our emails to each other also get stored together in one place.

But the purpose of this post was to test that I could post here and by adding "twitter+" onto the email address I posted this to, posterous talks to twitter and the subject line of this email gets turned into a tweet, with a shortened URL pointing to this post.

Now to check whether it worked. If you're reading this after reading the tweet then I guess it did.

How to see my Friends & Family photos at http://www.flickr.com/itauthor

Yahoo-signup

If you go to my Flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/itauthor) without signing in, all you'll see is some photos of me kayaking and the flats near our house being demolished. Those are the only photos I've made public.

To see my Friends & Family photos I need to have invited you, and then you need to sign in to Flickr using a Yahoo email address.

When I invite you, you get an automated email from Flickr. It contains a link something like this:
http://www.flickr.com/welcome/35096633/455862/

Click the link.

This takes you to the Yahoo sign-in page (see picture above).

Remember: You'll need to log in with a Yahoo email address before you can see my Friends & Family photos. If you go to my Flickr page without signing in, all you'll see is a few photos I've made public.

Once you've signed in, go to my photostream. You'll now see my all "sets" (groups of photos), not just the public ones.

  1. Click the Sets link near the top of the page.
  2. Click one of the sets.
  3. Click Slideshow.
